Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps in the world. It enables you to search endlessly through everything from your friends’ holiday snaps to cute pictures of Insta-famous dogs. If you forgot Instagram email and password, it can be very annoying.
The photo-sharing app has gone through quite a few changes since its inception in 2010.
In 2021 Facebook bought Instagram. Due to the acquisition of Facebook, you can sign into the Instagram with your Facebook account.
Wondering how to change your password on Instagram? Or have you been locked out of your account and need your login information to be reset now?
Here’s what you need to do to reset your Instagram password.
How to Reset Your Password for Instagram
Forgot Instagram password and email
If you forgot Instagram email and password, you can try to get your account details send by sms.
For iOS and Android smartphones, the procedure varies slightly. If you’re on an Android smartphone, open the app and the login screen will pop up. Pick ‘For help logging in’ then (below Log In). Tap on ‘Use Username or Email’, ‘Send SMS’ or ‘Facebook Login’. Now follow the on-screen directions.
If you’re on an iOS computer, go to the login screen as before, and pick ‘Get support signing in’. Choose your favorite method of resetting your login credentials (Username or Phone). Input your username, email address, or phone number. Tap Next and follow the on-screen directions to reset your password for Instagram. You should be able to pick a brand-new password now. Don’t hesitate to make it solid and impossible to guess.
Change Instagram password
It’s super quick to update your Instagram password, and if you are using an iOS or Android system, it’s the same method.
Second, by clicking on your profile icon at the bottom right of your phone, you need to open the app and go to your profile. Then press the menu icon (three rows in the upper right corner of the page) and go to Configuration > Protection > Password.
You’ll then need to type the existing password, followed by the new password you want to use – note, its better to use a password that you don’t use on most other apps, and it’s a smart choice to use a combination of numbers, uppercase, and lowercase letters to make it harder to guess.
To build a secure password, Instagram advises that you use “a combination of at least six numbers, letters and punctuation marks (like ! and percent )”. Tap Save or tick the button on the top right of your screen until you’re satisfied with your new password.
Instagram 2-factor authentication?
It’s possible to set up two-factor verification if you want to add an additional layer of protection to your Instagram account.
The first factor that unlocks your account is your email address and password combination. Allowing two-factor authentication involves adding a second factor, making it difficult for intruders to enter your account. This second aspect is always a message sent to your cell phone, telling you to check your attempted login.
You will be prompted to enter a special authentication code in the case of Instagram or validate your login attempt, but only if you view your account from a computer that you have not used before. Go to your profile to set this up, and press the menu button. Click Setup > Protection and scroll to Two-Factor Authentication.
You have an option between getting a special code via SMS or using a third-party authentication app such as Google Authenticator or Duo Smartphone. Tap Get Started, and then pick between the 2 different authentication methods for Instagram. If you head down the SMS route, keep in mind that if you are not asked to enter one before you can continue. You need to have a registered cell phone number connected with your Instagram account.
We recommend turning on two-factor authentication, whichever choice you go with. It is easy to set up and use. And it makes it even more difficult for intruders to hack your Instagram account.
